My Works Will Get Me into Heaven Won’t They – I’m a Good Person
Occasionally I’ve heard folks say they were sure they would go to heaven simply because they were good people. They didn’t hate anyone, they gave to others, they helped others, they didn’t kill, steal, cheat on their spouses. They’re absolutely sure that is enough to get them to heaven. They know their good deeds far outweigh their bad ones. Sure, they sometimes talk about others, perhaps have a few drinks occasionally.
Maybe gamble with money they can afford to lose and might even lose their temper once in a while. Perhaps they even disrespect their spouses during arguments. Perhaps once in a great while, even use the Lord’s name in vain (But only when really provoked, as if that’s any excuse). But those things only happen once in a while they say. Very rarely they’ll tell you. The insist that their good things far outweigh the “occasional” bad things. They are absolutely sure that God would not send them to hell because they are so good and righteous.
Unfortunately, God does not think the same as man (or woman). The Bible is God’s Word and only what is written there is what counts. Not what individuals might think. God has given us His plan for Salvation and it is very clear. To those who read and study God’s Words the message is easy to understand. Here are a couple of verses that may show what those arrogant individuals think and say is wrong.
As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one”. I suggest you read the following verses to see the entire meaning of this passage.
If you think you don’t have to come to God and ask him to forgive you for the sin in your life that caused Christ to be crucified and ask Him to come into your life, then at the Great White Throne you will hear Jesus say, “And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matthew 7:23) See Great White Throne (read from Rev. 20:11-15). Also see our article at: (Great White Throne Judgment Seat).
1 Cor. 3:9-15, indicates that “every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire. This is where Christians are rewarded for the works they do for Christ while they are in the body (living), AFTER they were saved by Grace. Before ANY of your works can be counted towards your rewards, Christ must save you. The works then are those done by the “fruits of the Spirit”.
Works done and then are made known to man by boasting will not pass the test of fire and will be burned up. As well as those done before being saved by Jesus through the sacrificial Blood that He shed on the cross for your sins. You’ll receive no awards for either one of those. Only the good works that are done by a born again Christian will be counted. Read “Meaning of Worship,” if you’re confused about this.
Those who say: I don’t believe in all this stuff, this is all made up or man wrote the Bible and its been translated so many times that the Words of the Bible is untrue. Or I just don’t believe in an after life. After I’m gone, that’s it. I want to make something perfectly clear to those with this thinking. It won’t matter what you think about God’s Word or what you would like to believe. Every person who was ever born must one day stand before Jesus Christ and be judged. Either at the bema seat where God’s kids go, (that’s the born again Christians), or the Great White Throne, that’s where everyone else goes. See the “Great White Throne Judgment” link above.
It won’t make any difference whether you believed here on this earth or not. Everyone including Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, New Age, Atheists, Agnostics, Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Catholics, Protestants, all Christians, absolutely everyone will stand before Jesus Christ one day at Judgment. You won’t have a choice. If you were born, you are immortal! You will never die! Yes, your earthly body (shell), will die, but your dead body will be resurrected no matter how you died or where your remains are.
Even if you are cremated and your remains are scattered in a lake, your body, soul and spirit will come together, and you WILL stand before Jesus Christ and be judged. There are many, many scriptures that tell us this.
When you’re standing in judgment before Christ, you will not be talking. You’ll be listening. (In this Judgment, Christ is the Judge). All of your good deeds will be read from a book. The ones you thought was good enough to get you into heaven. Then all of your bad deeds will be read from another book. Then the Lamb’s Book of Life will be opened and if your name isn’t written there it will no longer matter. Only those who have been saved while on this earth, will have their names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life Book of Life.
If you have not been saved through Grace by the Blood of Jesus prior to your death, Jesus will not defend you to His Father. And just because you didn’t believe the Bible or because you didn’t take the time to find out what’s written in the Bible and what the laws are, you will NOT be given a free pass. God’s Word clearly tells us this.
Even if you have done a good deed every hour of every day of your life, you have fallen short. It’s the same at the Judgment as it is on this earth, ignorance of the law is no excuse! Sound pretty harsh? Remember that you are here for God’s pleasure. After this short life, you will fellowship with Him for eternity in a place far better than what the Garden of Eden was. But, He expects you to follow his Word and worship Him. If you do not give your life to Christ and live by His Laws, you will be punished by the second death, that is, your eternity will be in hell.
But don’t think for a minute that will please Him because you would be wrong. He doesn’t want to see anyone perish so He gave us His Word in the form of the Old and New Testaments. He has told us how to live, how to love others, how to treat our spouses, and how to come to salvation thru Jesus. He has even told us how this world will end step by step and that’s all contained in the Book of Revelation which you are reading on this web site.
There is information contained within these writings that describes to you where the Bible came from and how we received it. Who wrote it and who gave us the interpretation that we call the King James Bible? (And, no, King James didn’t write the Bible) About the Bible and History of the Bible.
Find out about the people of God, the Prophets who told of the coming of Jesus. How do we know the writing of the prophets is true? Discover the test of the Prophets. Discover that the Bible was actually written by God through his inspired faithful servants such as Moses, Paul, David, Samuel, Isaiah, Daniel, Matthew, Luke, Mark, and of course John who also brought us the book of Revelation along with others. Read about the Bema Seat of Christ, the Great White Throne Judgment, and Hell.
Go to the individual sections on each which is right below in the links and discover what they’re all about.
I suggest you become familiar with the 66 books of the Old and New Testament in the Bible while there’s still time. I recommend getting a copy of the King James Bible and read the actual translations from the 47 top scholars that did the translations into English and into other languages (click on “History of the Bible link above).
Anyone who has not asked Jesus to come into their lives should keep in mind the scripture in Romans:
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”.
Now do you see how unless you accept God’s free gift of grace, you will not make it into heaven? If you haven’t accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, I suggest you consider doing so immediately. If you don’t know how, go to the link called “Christian How Do I Become One” and read what’s written there.
